Our Purpose

The Detroit Chapter
Queen for a Day (QFAD) and Heroes are national non-profit charities whose mission is to raise the self esteem and confidence of children 3-21 with cancer.

Our events are held at local hospitals, homes and counseling centers where children diagnosed with cancer are invited to participate in a day of fun. One day to not be sick and just be a kid. At our personal visits and group parties where we offer makeovers, crafts, manicures, games, temporary tattoos and entertainers. Girls receive boas and tiaras donated by beauty queens, boys receive fireman hats, and a badge. All children receive a keepsake photo and gift.

Participating Michigan hospitals: William Beaumont-Royal Oak, St. John Hospital-Grosse Pointe, Children's Hospital of Michigan-Detroit, Mott Children's Hospital-Ann Arbor and Hurley Hospital-Flint

Visits with children also take place at Camp Quality-Fenton, Camp Quality-Petoskey, Gilda's Club-Royal Oak. QFAD also does individual visits for children at home or in the hospital.

The National Organization
Queen for a Day is a non-profit organization established in 2000 by Jenna Edwards of Clinton, Mississippi. The program was designed to raise the self-esteem and self-confidence of girls coping with cancer.
Tea parties are held at local cancer hospitals throughout the year where girls diagnosed with cancer are invited to participate in a day of beauty. From manicures and make-overs, to overall beauty sessions, each girl receives her very own tiara and is treated like royalty by the organization's group volunteers. Tiaras are donated by pageant participants and given to each girl to make their day complete- they could be wearing a tiara previously owned by a Miss America, Miss Florida or even Miss Universe!

Because we are a 501-C-3 organization, Queen for a Day depends solely on donations. Each chapter dedicates efforts for securing local sponsorships in order for Queen for a Day to execute events. Local and national sponsors donate food items, beauty products and party rentals. Your support is much appreciated!

Since its inception, Queen for a Day has established chapters all across the United States, recognizing it nationally. Currently, Queen for a Day resides in Phoenix, Orange County, Denver, District of Columbia, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, Chicago, Shreveport, Boston, Baltimore, Detroit, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Jackson, St. Louis, New York City, Winston-Salem, Fargo, Cincinnati, Columbus, Philadelphia, Danville, Columbia, Greenville/Spartanburg, Knoxville, Memphis, Nashville, Amarillo, Dallas, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, Richmond, Seattle, Charleston and Milwaukee.
